💬 Tufting Workshop FAQs

1. Do I need any prior experience?

Not at all! Our workshops are perfect for beginners. You’ll learn everything step by step – no stress, no pressure. Just creativity and fun.

2. What kind of design can I tuft?

That’s entirely up to you! Whether square, round, abstract, or freeform – you choose your design.

There are no creative limits on our side.

Just one important note: keep it simple.

Tufted lines are about 6–8 mm wide – roughly the size of your pinky finger pressed flat. Very fine details won’t show clearly in yarn.

Here’s what fits:

🧶 Full-day workshop – up to 50×70 cm

🧶 Evening workshop – up to 35×35 cm

We’ll help you adjust your design if needed – so it turns out just right.

The light green middle Line in the Picture is one tufted Line.

3. How does the design get onto the tufting cloth?

Enter Full-day workshop:

In this session, we have enough time to sketch your design onto tracing paper and then transfer it onto the stretched tufting cloth.

If your design is more complex or hard to draw by hand, we can also project it onto the cloth using a beamer (projector) to trace it easily.

Evening workshop:

Here, we keep it simple: we’ll sketch your design onto tracing paper and transfer it by hand.

Due to time limitations, projection isn’t possible in this format – but you're very welcome to bring a 1:1 printout of your design if you like.the answer here

4. Are material costs included?

Yes – absolutely everything is included. We provide all materials you’ll need during the workshop.

No hidden costs. Just show up and start tufting.

5. Can I take my rug home right away?

Full-day workshop:
Not quite. Your rug needs to stay on the frame so the glue can dry properly.

For larger pieces, this step is essential – otherwise, the rug could warp and won’t dry flat. You’ll need to leave it with us overnight, and we’ll let you know when it’s ready for pickup or shipping.

Evening workshop:
Yes! You'll take your mini rug home the same evening.

We glue it into a pizza box (yes, really!) so it stays flat while drying.

Once the glue has cured – usually by the next day – you can cut and trim it at home to finish your piece.

6. How do I finis /carve my rug?

You have two options – choose what works best for you:

1. Finish at home

We’ll send your rug home with you (or ship it) along with a detailed video guide from Jenni.

You can trim and carve your rug in your own time – with clear, step-by-step instructions.

2. Come back to the studio

Prefer hands-on guidance? We’ll schedule a follow-up session at the Tuftinglove studio.

You’ll get to try out all the carving tools on test pieces, and Jenni will walk you through everything in person – tailored to your design.

7. Where do the workshops take place?

Unless otherwise noted, all workshops take place in our cozy and creative tufting studio:

Tuftinglove

Bachstrasse 33

5034 Suhr, Switzerland (right next to Aarau)

We’ve designed our space to feel inspiring, relaxed, and welcoming – just the right vibe for creative work.

8. Are there parking spaces on site?

Yes! Plenty of free parking spots right in front of the studio. No need to stress about finding a space.

9. How do I get there by public transport?

Just hop on the bus to Suhr Schweizerhof. From there, it's only a 2-minute walk to our studio.

Super easy – even with a coffee in hand.

10. How long does the workshop last?

Full-day workshop:

We start at 9:00 AM and wrap up around 5:00 PM.

Some finish early – and that’s totally fine! You can leave whenever your masterpiece is complete.

Evening workshop:

Lasts about 3.5 hours. The start time depends on your selected date – unless stated otherwise, we begin at 6:00 PM.

A great way to dive in and see what tufting is all about!

What You'll Learn

In this full-day workshop, you'll get all the essentials you need to start tufting confidently – from first steps to a finished piece:

• Understand how a tufted rug is built
• Learn how to stretch your cloth properly
• Try different tufting machines
• Get all of Jenni’s tips & tricks
• Learn how to glue and finish the back of your rug

By the end of the day, you'll go home with your own tufted piece – and the skills to keep going.

Tuft Your Own Design

Your idea, your creation!
If your design is technically doable (not too fine or detailed), we’ll make it happen together.
I’ll show you how to transfer your motif, guide you through the process, and help you get a great feel for the tufting machine quickly.

And yes – your rug will be machine washable at 30 °C on a gentle cycle!

What can you tuft?
Rugs, wall hangings, pillow covers, patches, coasters – and so much more.
